About Onyx Cyber
We exist because the door wasn't open for everyone
Building pathways to cybersecurity careers for underrepresented communities
Mission
We provide accessible, world-class cybersecurity training and mentorship to underrepresented communities, removing barriers to entry and building a more inclusive security workforce.
Vision
A cybersecurity industry that reflects the diversity of our society, where talent is recognized regardless of background, and where opportunity is truly accessible to everyone.
The Problem We're Solving
The cybersecurity industry has a critical diversity problem. The barriers to entry are real, and they're not being addressed at scale.
85%
Cybersecurity workforce is male
Significant gender representation gap
90K
Unfilled cybersecurity jobs in the US
Critical talent shortage despite high demand
7x
Higher barriers for underrepresented groups
Cost, geography, and access limit opportunity
Onyx Cyber addresses this by removing barriers, financial, geographic, and institutional of nature, that prevent talented people from underrepresented communities from entering and thriving in cybersecurity.
Our Story
Onyx Cyber was founded on a simple observation: the door to cybersecurity careers wasn't open for everyone. While the industry desperately needed talent, talented people from underrepresented communities faced barriers that their peers didn't.
Our founder knew this firsthand. Growing up without access to the networks, resources, and mentorship that typically lead to tech careers, she saw how circumstance — not capability — determined who succeeded in cybersecurity. She decided to change that.
In 2020, Onyx Cyber launched with a single mission: prove that talent exists everywhere when you remove the barriers. We started with in-person training in Beaumont, Texas. Within months, we'd trained hundreds. Within years, we'd built a national organization serving thousands.
Today, Onyx Cyber operates the Academy, Tech Tots, OnyxCon, and Skills Training programs — each designed to open doors at different stages of the pipeline. But the mission remains unchanged: make cybersecurity accessible to everyone.

The Onyx Cyber team
Beaumont, Texas
"I saw incredible talent being locked out of opportunity because of who they were or where they came from. That's not a shortage of talent but a failure of access. Onyx Cyber exists to fix that."

Our Values
Everything we do is guided by these principles
1
Access
We remove barriers, not add them. Education should be accessible, affordable, available, and welcoming to everyone.
3
Representation
The cybersecurity industry should reflect the diversity of our society. We believe in the power of seeing yourself in the field.
2
Community
Growth is collective, not individual. We build networks, foster mentorship, and lift each other up.
4
Community
Underrepresented doesn't mean underprepared. We deliver world-class training that prepares students for real-world impact.
