Accessibility Statement

Our Commitment

Onyx Cyber exists to remove barriers — in cybersecurity careers, in education, and in opportunity. It would be contradictory to our mission to build a website that creates barriers of its own. We are committed to ensuring that onyxcyber.org is accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities, regardless of the technology or assistive tools they use to browse the web.

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standard across all pages of our website. This is an ongoing commitment, not a one-time task — we continuously review and improve our site as we add new content and features.

What WCAG 2.1 AA Means in Practice

WCAG 2.1 AA is the internationally recognised standard for web accessibility. Meeting it means our website is designed to be:

Perceivable All information and content can be perceived by every user — text alternatives exist for non-text content, captions are provided for video, and content can be presented in different ways without losing meaning. Colour is never the only way we convey information.

Operable All functionality is available via keyboard, not just a mouse. Users have enough time to read and interact with content. Nothing on the site flashes in a way that could cause seizures. Users can navigate easily and find content without getting lost.

Robust Our site is built to work reliably with current and future assistive technologies, including screen readers, voice control software, and keyboard navigation tools.

What WCAG 2.1 AA Means in Practice

The following measures are in place to support accessibility across onyxcyber.org:

  • All meaningful images have descriptive alt text — decorative images are marked to be ignored by screen readers

  • All colour combinations on the site meet the WCAG AA minimum contrast ratio of 4.5:1 for body text and 3:1 for large text

  • All interactive elements — buttons, links, form fields — are keyboard navigable and have visible focus indicators

  • All form fields have associated labels so screen readers can identify them correctly

  • Icon-only buttons (such as social media icons) have descriptive aria-label attributes

  • A skip-to-main-content link is available at the top of every page for keyboard users

  • The site uses semantic HTML elements (<nav>, <main>, <section>, <article>, <footer>) to convey page structure

  • Colour is never used as the only means of conveying information — icons, labels, or patterns accompany colour coding

  • Font sizes are set in relative units so they scale correctly when users adjust their browser text size

  • No content on the site flashes more than three times per second

  • Language is declared in the HTML of every page so screen readers use the correct pronunciation

Known Limitations

We are committed to transparency. The following are known areas where we are actively working to improve:

Third-party embedded content Some embedded content — including our Discord widget and any third-party event or calendar tools — is provided by external platforms and may not fully meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards. We have limited control over the accessibility of these embeds and are working with providers where possible. Where a third-party embed is inaccessible, we provide an equivalent accessible alternative (such as a direct link to the resource).

PDF documents Any PDF documents available in the Resources section may not be fully accessible to screen readers. We are working to either replace these with accessible HTML alternatives or apply PDF accessibility tagging.

Legacy content Some older content pages may not yet fully meet our accessibility standards. We are conducting a rolling audit and updating pages on a priority basis.

Ongoing Efforts

Accessibility at Onyx Cyber is not a compliance checkbox — it is an expression of our values. We take the following steps to maintain and improve accessibility on an ongoing basis:

  • Annual full audit of all pages against WCAG 2.1 AA criteria

  • Accessibility review of all new pages and features before they are published

  • Team awareness — everyone who contributes content to our website is informed of basic accessibility requirements, including image alt text, heading structure, and link labelling

  • User feedback integration — accessibility reports from our community are triaged and prioritised alongside other site improvements

Technical Information

This accessibility statement applies to the website at onyxcyber.org and all its subpages.

The website is built on the Wix platform. While Wix provides foundational accessibility infrastructure, Onyx Cyber is responsible for the accessibility of all content, design decisions, and custom features on our site.

This statement was prepared on May 2026 and will be reviewed and updated at least annually, or whenever significant changes are made to the site.
